Who we are:
Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, in Tübingen, Germany, is a leading center of research excellence in the fields of Computer Vision, Machine Learning, and Robotics. Our research seeks to understand the principles of Artificial Intelligence by analyzing, modeling and building intelligent systems.
The IT team at the MPI for Intelligent Systems (Tübingen site) is responsible for our IT infrastructure, and supports scientists with their research projects. We provide our users with work stations, mobile devices, and server services. For the high demand in computing and storage capacity, we have an HPC cluster and large scale storage systems. Who we are looking for:
You have vocational training in IT (Fachinformatiker) or equivalent or you have at least 3 years of relevant work experience.
- You work independently and on your own responsibility,
- are the first contact for employees with IT-related questions,
- are open and like to help,
- enjoy learning new things and working with cutting edge technologies,
- are not reluctant to speak English with our international employees and answer emails in English.
Your tasks include:
- installation of computers (Linux, Mac OS, Windows),
- system administration of Linux servers,
- system administration of mobile devices (smartphones, tablets),
- maintaining software (operating systems and application updates, virus scanner),
- user support (all kinds of problems, program installation).
The MPI for Intelligent Systems is not a standard office environment. Tasks are diverse and challenging because we do not only support workstations but also scientific experiments with different and unique IT requirements.
As our IT team is still being built, you have the opportunity to participate in developing our infrastructure and processes and you can bring ideas and projects to the table.

What we offer
Salaries and contract will be based on previous experience according to TVöD guidelines (German collective wage agreement for the public service). This is a full-time position. The position is initially limited to two years with the possibility of a permanent position.
